In 2020 Inspection Certification Associates (ICA) merged with Home Inspection Educational Seminars (HIES). HIES has a long, established history of service to North Carolina’s Licensed Home Inspectors and candidates for licensing. Originally known as Carolina Educational Seminars and then as North Eastern Carolina Home Services Inc., HIES is the oldest provider of home inspection courses in the Southeast Atlantic region. HIES President, Eric Coates, will continue to teach and develop courses for ICA.

Right from the beginning, all of our Continuing Education, Pass The Test and Pre-Licensing classes have been taught by active, Licensed North Carolina Home Inspectors. Our team experiences the same challenges that our students do. This “feet on the ground” mindset allows us to deliver the detailed, quality results our students need and expect. All of our CE and pre-licensing courses are approved by the NC Home Inspector Licensure Board.

With classes scheduled throughout the year and across the state — plus online options — ICA is well positioned to serve North Carolina’s home inspector profession.

Our History

Richard B. Pontello
HIES and ICA are indebted to Richard B. Pontello, founder of North Eastern Carolina Home Services, Inc. The education component of NECHS evolved into HIES.

Dick passed away in February 2015, leaving behind a rich legacy of excellent home inspection training and continuing education instruction to the licensed home inspectors of NC. We honor Dick’s memory and the contributions he made to the home inspection industry of NC.

Thomas Williams, P.E.
Under the guidance of co-owner, Thomas Williams, HIES has continued to operate and grow into the thriving, successful education business that it is today. In March 2018, Tom passed away after a long, protracted battle with cancer.
